This smoothie recipe rocks! After I served it to Benjamin, I had a taste and declared that one morning in June when we had our own strawberries I was going to make it for all three of us.
It is delicious.
And, of course, brimming with nutrition. Let’s look at some of the good stuff this strawberry smoothie brings to your body.
You’re probably aware that strawberries are a great source of the free-radical fighting vitamin C. They are also high in the mineral manganese and contain a variety of other antioxidants besides vitamin C.
Research has linked strawberry consumption to reduced risk of death from cancer.
Meal replacement shake
The particular brand that I use, from Be Young Total Health, is the only one I’ve been able to find that has a completely natural, whole-foods nutrition matrix, and no quasi-healthy sweeteners. It is therefore not sickeningly sweet like most meal replacement whey protein shakes on the market, nor does it taste fake – because there is nothing artificial about it.
Generally speaking, whey protein is the most easily digested protein around, containing all the essential amino acids in high levels. It helps you build muscle without trying, and, consequently, to burn fat without trying.

You can certainly use the chocolate instead of the vanilla MRS if you love the strawberry-chocolate combination!
When you want to add more calories to a smoothie, cashews are a great go-to because they have a mild, sweet flavor that does not get in the way of the other flavors.
It is also a great source of magnesium and copper, and a good source of phosphorus and tryptophan.
But if you are trying to lose weight, you should omit the cashews and add more whey protein.
The recipe: Strawberry-Vanilla Whey Smoothie
- 1 cup water or healthy liquid drink
- 1-2 cups strawberries, fresh or frozen (chop frozen berries into small pieces if you don’t have a high-powered blender like my Vita-Mix)
- If using fresh berries , add 1/2 – 1 cup ice chips
- 1-2 scoops Be Healthy vanilla whey meal replacement shakeLINK (if you like things really sweet, use two scoops)
- 1/4 cup cashews, optional
Pour liquid into blender. Add shake powder, nuts, and strawberries. Blend thoroughly.
If you are trying to lose weight, use water as the liquid base, double the strawberries (they are extremely low in calories), and use two scoops of the shake powder.
If you are an athlete or otherwise trying to bulk up, use two scoops of the shake powder, another extra serving or two of fruit (such as a banana plus another cup of berries), and 1/2 cup cashews.
Use almonds if you prefer to have a higher protein-carbohydrate ratio, as cashews are high in carbs.
