Many books about how to be successful teach affirmations. You’re supposed to go around saying things like, “I am rich”, “I am skinny”, “I am happily married,” and miraculously, whatever you want will materialize in front of you.
You may have tried affirmations before. Did they work? They’ve never worked for me. I always thought that it was because they didn’t make you get up and do something to make it happen.
That certainly is part of it. However, I once heard another explanation: when you say something that is the opposite of your reality, your mind laughs at you. Argues with you. “Excuse me,” your brain says. “No, you’re not.”
So, rather than thinking and speaking affirmations, think and speak afFORMations. That “form” is there on purpose, because when you use this trick, you begin to form your destiny.
An afformation asks a question. If you want to earn more money, you might ask, “How is it that I was able to double my money within a year?”
Yes, I know, you’re still saying things that don’t meet your current reality. But when you ask your subconscious a question, it doesn’t argue back. It starts looking for an answer to that question. After all, your mind doesn’t like to be stuck in limbo any more than you do!
When you decide on an afformation and make yourself repeat it throughout the day, day after day, week after week, your mind begins to constantly look about for the answer. And when it finds a helpful path, it will lead you down it.
I can’t guarantee that, and I can assure you it’s not the quickest way to achieve your goals. But I’ve tried it a couple of times, and it brought better results than me twisting my brain to figure it out.
