Does the Kratky method of hydroponics really work? How easy is it? With a view to eventually creating a slideshow video showing the week-by-week growth of the tomato I’m growing via the Kratky method, I am taking two photos of the plant every week, one of the plant and one of the roots.
So, how is it working?
Here is what the plant looked week five since its germination:
Here is what the roots looked like:
Now the plant and roots at six weeks:
Can you believe it? Isn’t that totally awesome? If this plant were in the ground, number one the leaves would not look that healthy this (hot) time of year, and number two I’m not sure the growth would have been this phenomenal in a week’s time.
And you can’t tell from the photo above, but right in the middle toward the top of the plant, three or four baby buds are growing!
Why this blog may get quiet for a couple of weeks
Except for a sudden inspiration to share garden updates, I will probably not post much for a week or two. I actually was not planning to publish this post, mind you, so smile and be happy!
The truth is, I have become obsessed with the novel I’m working on. I’m not sure “obsessed” is the right word. Except for two places early on when I had to take a day or two to decide on and flesh out the next scene in my head, the writing of this novel has flowed like I’ve never had a novel flow before!
Because of my eye condition (some call it Irlen Syndrome; its medical term is “perceptual processing disorder”), I typically limit myself to writing only five to seven pages per day. Any more than that and my eyes start to get really dry and my head starts to feel woozy (I’m a bit headachy right now, jotting out this post). But during the past week and a half, I’ve been able to whip out five pages an hour (my norm is 3-4). I end up with seven pages with no problem.
And as I’ve approached the climax, it’s gotten easier and, frankly, exciting – to the extent that the other day, I whipped out fifteen pages! Much to the complaint of my eyes, I might add.
And so, I’m taking a break from my blog for a small while for two reasons. First, I need my eyes not to do any extra “close” work. Second, all I can think about is the story. Seriously. I have dreamed about it three blessed times! Once I had Max and Antonia show up in a dream, but it was just one time and my view of them was objective and rather distant. The dreams about my latest novel have had me smack dab in the middle of the story, like playing a role in a movie!
Okay, so maybe I am obsessed.
Anyway, it’s hard to think about blogging when I’m so excited about a story – I definitely found my groove in this one – so just so nobody thinks I’ve abandoned ship here, I wanted to explain my possible absence for a up to a couple of weeks.
Thanks for understanding, and see you later! 🙂
