At the beginning of the book of Genesis, after God creates man He says, “Let them have dominion….” Most of the time when people hear this verse, they think about how God has given the human race permission to do whatever is necessary to the earth in order to survive. Hopefully, they think about that within a responsible, environmentally sustainable framework, but that’s a subject for another day.
The point I want to make here is that most people miss the main point of that verse. That is, human beings were created to take dominion, not to be dominated. Not even by other people. Perhaps it would be better to say, especially not be other people.
There are several ways by which you could be dominated by another human being, but in this post, I want to focus on the most insidious way this happens in modern societies: becoming an employee.
Do you work for someone else?
If so, you have allowed someone else to dominate you.
“But I need to make a living! Are you telling me I should quit my job today and let my kids starve?”
Of course not! What I’m saying is that many, if not most, of your personal problems stem from the fact that you have given up most of your freedom and fulfillment potential in order to give more freedom to someone else. What I’m saying is that this modern nine-to-five job lifestyle is not God’s best for you. What I’m saying is that if you want to truly live the life of your dreams, you’re going to have to make a couple of shifts.
First, you will have to shift your idea of how life is supposed to roll out. You weren’t made to sit in a confined space for eight hours a day, doing work that someone else dictates for you to do. God never intended for people to be in bondage to a job for thirty to forty years, never having any time freedom until they were too old to enjoy it.
The second shift is moving in the direction of what I will call “work freedom.” Once you make the first shift, you will feel dissatisfied with your mediocre, dominated life and so the second shift will automatically begin to happen. You will start to look into your options. Begin to wonder if you could turn your hobby into a business. Begin to plan out how you could start evenings and weekends on a side business and grow it until it was providing at least the income you need, perhaps even the income you want.
“Yeah, so, put your money where your mouth is.”
Okay. My husband and I live on a beautiful wooded acreage and neither one of us has a job. We are free from the bonds of employers telling us what to do, when, and how long to spend doing it. Most of our time is spent with our son, working on hobbies, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings and fresh air of southeast Oklahoma. My husband left his job at age 42.
Unlike most people who are blogging about how to be financially independent, we have actually achieved it. We not only know how to do it, but we have done it.
And one of the most important things we did after making the shift was to tame the “Money Monster” I talk about in my free report. You need to tame the Money Monster if you want to grow your personal freedom. Click the book image for “Take Back Your Life” and sign up on the form – you get TBYL and The Money Monster.
Hint: whatever you think the Money Monster is, it probably isn’t. That’s why it’s dangerous. Find out what it is.
To your success!
